Decorative Staining - Questions

How is decorative staining achieved?

This is a chemical process where metallic salts in an acidic, water-based solution react with hydrated lime in the concrete.

Does this process just stain the surface?

No. The chemical stains burn into the matrix of the concrete resulting in a beautiful variegation similar to the natural patina of stone or marble.

Can decorative staining be applied to old concrete?

Yes. Decorative staining can be applied to new, old or plain concrete surfaces. This will transform an ordinary looking concrete slab into a unique and luxurious floor.

Almost any type of substrate can be stained. The final outcome is dependant on the original condition and type of floor.

What colours are available?

We have a range of colours available in earthy tones.
